Surrey Town Gridlocked As Drivers Face Nightmare Over Complex Sinkhole Repairs

Surrey town 'gridlocked' as drivers face 'nightmare' over 'complex' sinkhole repairs

Emergency road closures and diversions have been put in place after a huge sinkhole opened up in a Surrey town.

The sinkhole, which is around 2 metres wide and 3 metres deep, appeared in the middle of a busy road in Camberley on Monday morning.

Surrey County Council said the sinkhole was caused by a collapsed sewer and that repairs were likely to take several days.

The road has been closed in both directions and a diversion is in place.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the area if possible.

Surrey County Council said in a statement: "We are aware of a sinkhole that has appeared on Frimley Road in Camberley.

"The sinkhole is around 2 metres wide and 3 metres deep and is located in the middle of the road.

"The road has been closed in both directions and a diversion is in place.

"We are working to repair the sinkhole as quickly as possible, however, we expect the road to be closed for several days.

"We would advise drivers to avoid the area if possible."

A spokesman for South East Water said: "We are aware of the sinkhole that has appeared on Frimley Road in Camberley.

"We are working with Surrey County Council to repair the sinkhole as quickly as possible.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
