Investigation into Angela Rayner's Council House Sale Reopened

Allegations of Electoral Law Violations

Greater Manchester Police Investigate

Greater Manchester Police have reopened an investigation into Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner over allegations that she may have broken electoral law in connection with the sale of her council house.

Rayner purchased the council house in Vicarage Road, Stockport, in 2007 under the right-to-buy scheme for £79,000. She sold the property in March 2015, shortly before the general election.

The allegations center on whether Rayner properly disclosed her interest in the property when she stood as a parliamentary candidate in the 2015 election. Electoral law requires candidates to declare any property interests they have that are worth over £5,000.

Rayner has denied any wrongdoing and has stated that she is cooperating fully with the investigation.

The reopening of the investigation comes after a previous probe by Greater Manchester Police was closed in 2018 due to a lack of evidence. However, new information has emerged that has led to the investigation being reopened.

The outcome of the investigation could have significant implications for Rayner's political career. If she is found to have broken electoral law, she could face fines or even imprisonment.
